Virtual Tours of Milford

This series of mini-tours of various areas in and around the Village of Milford should help you get a better “feel” for our little corner of the world. We’re still under development in this section. We’ll continue to add to these tours as we get the chance to take the pictures.

Out and about in Milford - This tour will likely be broken up into much more specific tours with themes around shopping or family fun places or places of worship. For now it is a general look at things that aren’t on the Main Street tour.

The Restaurants of Milford - A quick photo tour of the restaurants in the Village of Milford. These are all sit down and order your meal restaurants, not fast food places. Milford has become known as a destination for fine dining in the Detroit area, especially for those who desire food that is made with local ingredients and with an accent on good Mid-West tastes. One of our restaurants - the Five Lakes Grill - is owned and operated by a quite famous chef - Bryan Polcyn  - and was recently names the top restaurant in the Detroit area by the Detroit Free Press. It is ranked consistently in the top 10 Detroit area restaurants by a variety of food and travel magazines.

Historic places in Milford - These tours are from sites that the Milford Historical Society maintains in the Village - the first is the Milford Historical Society Museum on the corner of Commerce and Union Streets. The second is a tour of the Pettibone Creek Powerhouse that was built in the 1920’s by Henry Ford as part of his Village Industries initiative. Ford built a carburetor plant in Milford and built the powerhouse to provide electricity for the plant. The Milford Historical Society has an on-going project to restore the Powerhouse and hopes to someday have it produce electricity again. For more on that and the history of Milford, visit the Milford Historical Society Web site.

The 2007 Tour of Main Street - This is an updated tour of Main Street in Milford, Michigan. This tour was shot early on a Sunday morning in July, 2007. It covers Main Street from just north of the corner of Main and Commerce Streets (the northern end of the downtown area) south to the corner of Main and E. Liberty St (which most locals would call the end of the downtown area) . The earlier tour (below) went further south, under the railroad underpass, past Central Park and over the bridge into the South Milford “downtown” area, which does have a few stores and offices. For the most part, people, both local and visitors who say they are going downtown would be referring to the areas covered by this new tour. We’ll try to keep this tour updated as tenets change in the various buildings that make up the downtown area.
